SHINY BLACK VINYL so much more than just records
Just a quick post to say what a top night we northerners had last night down sarf. A big thank you to...Andy & Marcus...you are most superb hosts...you made us welcome from the moment we stepped into your venue...right up to the point where we were booted out of the after party at 6am (well you cant expect us to go home while alcohol is still being served...can you?)Loved the venue...loved the punters...loved the music...went home well happy. Thanks for all the great feedback recieved...It was very much appreciated.Kenny...it was great to see you again....see...it wasn't that bad Alan Clanger...Twas lovely to meet you Thank you to Becky for her hospitality during the afternoon & Joe for getting us there and back safely.Lindax
The Roots of Rhythm event. It was billed, rightly so, as UNMISSABLE....and bugger me...thats exactly what it was.
The Journey to the event for us started at 9am on Saturday morning. Bob Morrris picked us up and whisked us off via the m6...m5, to Merv's home. As per usual the hospitality offered by Merv & Shell was second to none. Jodie and Micky were already there, records were spinning, and we were made very much at home.
The mini bus was soon loaded...and the second leg of our journey began.
We arrived at The Market House, Western Super Mare around 1pm, and the party was soon in full swing.
The small back room, set aside for the afternoon bash (record fair & vinyl fest) was soon rockin' as dj's played their tunes, and plied their wares....Double decking seemed to be the name of the game during the afternoon sesh..Merv and Leon, Paul & Jason, Ted, Bob, Jodie & Kev all took their turn and I had the honour of doing a spot alongside Roger Banks.
There was a feeling in the air, I can't put into words...but we all smiled knowingly at each other...this was going to be a very special time for us.
More and more people arrived as the day turned to night, the back room closed its doors and we started the party proper in the front room....with its clean lines and walls decked out with musical memorobillia..we couldn't in our wildest dreams have hoped for better.
The Dj's waited patiently for their allotted spot...All 13 of them. No snobbery or one upmanship here, each one bravely experimenting with new sounds, styles and genres...only possible because of the truly open minded punters that were in attendance...so great were there numbers at one point, that the back room reopened...such was the volume of folk. The place was absolutely rocking.
The one aspect of the night that will always stick in my mind...In the whole 16hrs...Not one negative comment was uttered...NOT ONE !!!!
A special thank you must go to Martin...the Landlord extrordinaire...He wined us...dined us and gave us a bed to recover in....and all the time...he kept thanking US....What a guy !!
I bow to all those involved...This night will live in my memory till the day I die.
Linda.
Just starting to recover from last nights escapade
I have to admit that I was more than a little sad that we had to miss 'NO MORE DOGGIN'
I have always bemoaned people who talk of how great such and such a venue is....How they love to go somewhere and hear new tunes, where DJ's kick off the restraints regarding what is and isn't acceptable....Then when the night is on...they're conspicuous by their absence.
Sadly last night...I was one of these people myself. Sorry Kev petal.
We rely on lifts to venues as I am a driver....who hates driving.
Bob Morris bless him, ferries us about from venue to venue, and as we have very much the same taste....there is no conflict, but alas...last night was different, and off we toddled to Almwch.
The place is brill...A one roomer...and what a great size room...in the words of Goldilocks...not too big...not to small...but just right.
Lots of faces there that I'd not seen for ages, lots of hugs...loves and laughs.
Lots of great music played....a superb mix of known, semi known & from where I was standing....there didn't seem to be anyone who wasn't having a good time.
Spots that stood out for me...messers Mace, Sardot & Thomas....Jeez at one point, I even took to the floor myself for half an hour, a miracle in it's own right...as normally, I'm a listener, a writer down and an asker of questions I suffer from an incurable condition that prevents any of the rhythm I feel in my soul, being transfered to my feetand can only very rarely be found shaking my ass on the dancefloor. Believe me, this spectacle is not for the faint hearted.
It was great to see my friend Ray and his mates from Ireland once again...I do hope he and all my other helpless victims have recovered from the effects of my insessant verballing and have all returned safely to the peace and quiet of their homes.
Ahh I do have one request....Could we nicotine addicts have music piped out to the carpark next time please
